Pillnitz Castle & Park is a stunning summer palace located on the banks of the Elbe River, just outside Dresden. The complex is renowned for its unique fusion of European Baroque and Chinese architectural styles, a reflection of the 18th-century fascination with the Orient. The main palace buildings, the Riverside Palace and the Upper Palace, are adorned with pagoda-like roofs and intricate Chinoiserie decorations. The surrounding park is a masterpiece of landscape design, featuring terraced vineyards, a Chinese-style pavilion, and an English garden. Visitors can explore the opulent state rooms, stroll through the botanical gardens, and enjoy panoramic views of the Elbe Valley. Pillnitz is also famous for its camellia tree, planted in 1801, which blooms in spring and is protected by a mobile glass house in winter.
