Dresden Cathedral, also known as the Katholische Hofkirche, is a magnificent Baroque church that stands as a symbol of the city's royal and religious heritage. Located on the banks of the Elbe, it is the largest church in Saxony and served as the court church for the Electors and Kings of Saxony. The exterior is characterized by its towering spire and ornate sandstone facade, while the interior dazzles with its white-and-gold stucco, grand altar, and intricate frescoes. The cathedral houses the crypt of the Wettin dynasty, containing the tombs of many Saxon rulers. Visitors can climb the tower for sweeping views of the Altstadt and the Elbe. Despite heavy damage in WWII, the cathedral was meticulously restored and remains an active place of worship.

Don't miss

  • The ornate high altar with a painting by Anton Raphael Mengs
  • The Wettin crypt with royal sarcophagi
  • The 84-meter tower climb for panoramic views
  • The Silbermann organ, played during services and concerts
