Dinkelsbühl offers visitors a chance to step back into the Middle Ages. The old town is encircled by a nearly intact city wall with towers and gates, such as the Wörnitz Gate and the Rothenburg Gate. Strolling through the cobblestone streets, you'll see colorful half-timbered houses, the Gothic St. George's Minster with its towering spire, and the historic market square. The town is less crowded than nearby Rothenburg ob der Tauber, making it a more tranquil experience. Key sights include the German House (Deutsches Haus), a richly decorated patrician house, and the Stadtmühle museum. The town also hosts the annual Kinderzeche festival, a historical pageant commemorating the town's survival during the Thirty Years' War.

Don't miss

  • Walk the complete city wall with its 16 towers and gates
  • Visit St. George's Minster, a late Gothic hall church
  • See the Deutsches Haus, a richly decorated half-timbered building from the 15th century
  • Explore the Stadtmühle museum in the old town mill
  • Attend the Kinderzeche festival in July (if visiting then)
