Medemsand is a unique sandbank and nature reserve located in the Elbe estuary near Cuxhaven. This protected area is a haven for wildlife, particularly seabirds and seals. The sandbank emerges at low tide, creating a vast landscape of mudflats and shallow waters. Visitors can observe large colonies of harbor seals basking on the sand, as well as numerous bird species such as oystercatchers, terns, and gulls. The area is part of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its ecological importance. Access is typically by guided boat tours from Cuxhaven harbor, which offer close-up views without disturbing the animals.
