Hromadnik, also known as the 'Thunder Hill,' is a 491-meter-high hill in the Lusatian highlands, located about 12 kilometers south of Bautzen. Its name derives from the Slavic word for 'thunder,' likely due to the hill's prominent shape and the sound of storms echoing off its rocky slopes. The hill is characterized by a distinctive conical profile and features several granite outcrops that provide natural viewpoints. Hiking trails lead through mixed forests to the summit, where hikers are rewarded with views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Unlike the more frequented Czorneboh, Hromadnik offers a quieter, more contemplative experience. The area is less developed, with no summit facilities, making it ideal for those seeking solitude in nature. The hill is also a popular spot for geocaching and birdwatching.
