Großer Picho, at 498 meters, is a prominent hill in the Lusatian highlands, located about 15 kilometers south of Bautzen. It is a favorite destination for hikers seeking a moderate climb through mixed forests and open fields. The summit provides a broad panorama of the Upper Lusatian region, with views extending to the Zittau Mountains on clear days. The hill is part of a network of trails that connect to other peaks like Czorneboh and Hromadnik, making it a great stop on a longer trek. Unlike its more developed neighbor, Großer Picho retains a wilder, more natural character, with no summit buildings or facilities. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the forest and the rewarding vistas at the top. The area is also popular for mountain biking and, in winter, for snowshoeing.

Don't miss

  • Hike to the summit for panoramic views of the Lusatian highlands
  • Combine with a trek to Czorneboh or Hromadnik for a longer route
  • Enjoy the peaceful forest atmosphere and wildlife spotting
  • Mountain bike on the forest trails
  • Photograph the scenic landscape, especially at sunrise or sunset
