Geierstein (1,491 m) is a distinctive limestone peak in the Bavarian Prealps, rising steeply above the town of Lenggries. It is a favorite destination for both hikers and climbers, thanks to its exposed summit and via ferrata routes. The standard hiking trail approaches from the east, winding through forest and scree fields before a final steep ascent to the summit ridge. For climbers, the south face offers several challenging routes up to grade VI. The summit rewards with a breathtaking panorama of the Isar River winding through the valley, the Benediktenwand, and the Karwendel range. Geierstein is less crowded than nearby peaks, offering a sense of wilderness. The mountain's name, meaning 'vulture stone', reflects the presence of griffon vultures that once nested here. Today, it is a haven for rock climbers and adventurous hikers seeking a thrilling alpine experience.
