Ikalto Monastery is a sprawling medieval complex that served as one of Georgia's most important religious and educational centers. Founded in the 6th century, it later housed a renowned academy where scholars studied theology, philosophy, and even viticulture. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of the academy, the main cathedral, and the ancient wine cellar (marani) where wine is still made using traditional methods. The serene setting among rolling hills adds to its spiritual and historical allure.
