Metekhi Church, originally built in the 12th century, stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Mtkvari River in old Tbilisi. The current structure dates from the 13th century, with later restorations. Inside, the church features frescoes and a calm atmosphere. Beside the church is a large equestrian statue of King Vakhtang Gorgasali, who is credited with founding Tbilisi.
