Gveleti is a small, serene village nestled within the rugged Darial Gorge in the Caucasus Mountains. Visitors come here primarily to hike to the Gveleti Waterfalls, a series of cascades that plunge through lush, narrow ravines. The area offers a peaceful escape from the more crowded spots in Stepantsminda, with trails that wind through forests and offer stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The hike to the lower waterfall is relatively easy, while the upper falls require a more strenuous trek, rewarding hikers with a secluded natural pool.
Don't miss
- Hike to the lower Gveleti Waterfall, a 20-meter cascade accessible via a well-trodden path.
- Continue to the upper waterfall for a more challenging trek and a quieter setting.
- Enjoy panoramic views of the Darial Gorge's steep cliffs and the Terek River below.
