Sataplia Nature Reserve is a protected area located about 10 kilometers from Kutaisi, renowned for its unique combination of paleontological and geological features. The reserve is named after the Sataplia massif, which means 'place of honey' in Georgian, referring to the wild bees that once thrived here. Visitors can walk along well-maintained trails through lush Colchic forest, home to diverse flora and fauna. The main attractions include a shelter containing over 200 fossilized dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous period, a karst cave with stalactites and stalagmites, and a modern glass observation deck offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The cave, stretching about 300 meters, features illuminated pathways and a small underground river. The observation deck, cantilevered over the forest, provides a thrilling vantage point for photos. The reserve also has a small museum with exhibits on local geology and paleontology. It's a popular day trip from Kutaisi, combining natural beauty and scientific interest.
