Afareaitu serves as the administrative center of Moorea, located on the island's east coast. The village is home to a lively market where visitors can buy fresh tropical fruits, local crafts, and souvenirs. It is also the gateway to the Belvedere Lookout, a popular viewpoint accessed by a winding road that climbs into the mountains. From the lookout, one can see across Cook's and Opunohu Bays with Mount Rotui between them. The area offers a glimpse into local life and provides convenient access to the island's interior.
