Place Royale is one of Nantes' most beautiful squares, a masterpiece of 18th-century urban planning. Its symmetrical layout, lined with neoclassical buildings and arcades, creates a refined and airy space. At the center stands the monumental Fontaine de la Place Royale, a grand fountain adorned with allegorical sculptures representing the Loire River and its tributaries, as well as maritime commerce, a nod to Nantes' historic role as a major port. The square is a popular meeting point and a hub of activity, with cafés and shops under the arcades. It's a perfect spot to sit and watch the world go by, or to start a walking tour of the city's historic center. The surrounding streets are filled with boutiques and restaurants, making it a lively area day and night.
