The Église Saint-Patern is the spiritual heart of the Saint-Patern quarter and one of Vannes' most important religious buildings. Built between the 13th and 16th centuries, it combines Gothic and Renaissance elements. The exterior is relatively austere, but inside you'll find a stunning collection of 16th-century stained glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Christ and local saints. The church also houses the reliquary of Saint Paternus, the city's patron saint, which is carried in procession during the annual Pardon festival. The atmosphere is serene and contemplative, with soft light filtering through the colored glass. Notable features include the carved wooden pulpit and a series of ex-voto offerings from sailors. The church is still active, so visitors should be respectful during services.
