The Musée des Blindés, or Museum of Armored Vehicles, is a must-visit for military history enthusiasts. Located on the outskirts of Saumur, it houses one of the most extensive collections of tanks and armored cars in the world, with more than 800 vehicles spanning from World War I to the present day. The museum is organized chronologically and by country, allowing visitors to trace the evolution of armored warfare. Highlights include rare German tanks from WWII, such as the Tiger II, and a vast array of French vehicles, including the iconic AMX-30 and Leclerc main battle tanks. Many exhibits are displayed in realistic dioramas, with vehicles positioned in battle scenes or maintenance settings. The museum also features interactive displays, a cinema showing archival footage, and a section dedicated to the history of the French cavalry. The sheer scale of the collection is impressive, and the knowledgeable staff often provide guided tours or demonstrations.
