The Basilica of Saint-Sauveur is the largest church within Rocamadour's sanctuary complex, blending Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Its construction dates from the 12th to 13th centuries, and it features a striking nave with pointed arches and a series of chapels. The interior is decorated with faded but evocative frescoes and inscriptions, including a famous 12th-century painting of the Annunciation. The basilica also houses a 12th-century wooden Christ figure known as the 'Christ of Rocamadour.' Visitors can explore the side chapels, each with its own character, and admire the carved capitals and stained glass. The atmosphere is solemn and historic, with the stone walls echoing centuries of prayer. The basilica is still used for worship and is a key stop on the pilgrimage route.
