Vesunna Gallo-Roman Museum is a striking example of contemporary architecture embracing ancient history. Designed by Jean Nouvel, the museum is built directly over the remains of a large Gallo-Roman domus (villa) from the 1st century AD. The glass-and-steel structure protects the archaeological site while allowing natural light to illuminate the ruins. Visitors walk on elevated walkways above the villa's foundations, viewing intricate mosaics, wall paintings, and heating systems. The museum also displays everyday objects, pottery, and sculptures from the ancient city of Vesunna, which was the capital of the Petrocorii tribe. Interactive exhibits and films bring the Roman era to life. The museum shop offers books and replicas. It's a fascinating stop for history lovers and families.
