Grévin is Paris's historic wax museum, a Parisian institution since 1882, set in a sumptuous Belle Époque building near the Grands Boulevards. More than 200 wax figures range from French and world history (kings, revolutionaries, scientists, writers) to a glittering hall of contemporary celebrities, film stars, musicians, and sports heroes you can pose alongside. The settings are theatrical, and the building itself is a highlight: the dazzling Hall of Mirrors (Palais des Mirages), a surviving 1900 illusion with mirrors, lights, and music, is a small marvel.

It's a fun, light, family-friendly counterpoint to Paris's grand art museums, and the celebrity selfies are the obvious draw. The Belle Époque interiors, marble staircase, theatre, and the mirage hall, give it more character than typical wax museums.

A bit of history

Founded in 1882 by journalist Arthur Meyer and caricaturist Alfred Grévin, the museum was conceived as a way to put faces to the news before photography was widespread. It became a Paris fixture, and its Belle Époque rooms and the 1900 Palais des Mirages survive as attractions in their own right.
