The Jardins de la Fontaine are among the first public gardens in Europe, created in 1745 on the site of a Roman spring sanctuary. The gardens are named after the natural spring that once supplied water to the Roman city. Visitors can stroll along tree-lined paths, admire the large ornamental pond and neoclassical statues, and explore the remnants of Roman baths and the Temple of Diana. The park rises up a gentle hill to the Tour Magne, a Roman watchtower offering panoramic views. The gardens are a peaceful escape from the city bustle, with shaded benches, fountains, and a small café. Unlike formal French gardens, these have a relaxed, almost English-style layout, blending history with nature. The combination of Roman ruins, water features, and lush greenery makes it a unique urban oasis.
