The Saint-Clément Aqueduct is an impressive 18th-century engineering marvel located on the outskirts of Montpellier. This stone aqueduct features two tiers of graceful arches, stretching over 800 meters across the valley of the Verdanson River. It was built to carry water from the Saint-Clément spring to the city's fountains and gardens. Today, it stands as a picturesque landmark and a popular spot for walks and picnics. Visitors can walk along the base of the aqueduct, admiring the symmetry and scale of the arches, or hike up to the top for panoramic views of Montpellier and the surrounding countryside. The structure is particularly beautiful at sunset when the golden light highlights the stonework. It's a peaceful escape from the city center and a testament to historical water management.
