Promenade du Peyrou is a grand, tree-lined esplanade at the highest point of Montpellier's historic center. Built in the 18th century, it offers sweeping views over the city and the surrounding countryside. At its center stands an imposing equestrian statue of Louis XIV, the Sun King, surrounded by manicured gardens and fountains. Visitors stroll along the wide gravel paths, relax on benches beneath plane trees, and admire the distant mountains. The promenade connects to the Arc de Triomphe (Porte du Peyrou) and the aqueduct, creating a harmonious ensemble of classical architecture and green space. It's a favorite spot for locals to walk, jog, or enjoy a picnic while taking in the city's skyline.
