Porte du Peyrou is a majestic triumphal arch built in the 17th century to commemorate the military victories of Louis XIV. It stands at the eastern entrance of the Promenade du Peyrou, creating a grand gateway to the esplanade. The arch is modeled after the Porte Saint-Denis in Paris, with a single large arch flanked by Doric columns and topped with a sculpted pediment. Reliefs and inscriptions celebrate the king's achievements. Visitors can walk through the arch and admire its classical proportions, then continue onto the promenade for sweeping views. The arch is beautifully illuminated at night, making it a striking landmark in Montpellier's urban landscape.
