Château de Flaugergues is one of Montpellier's finest 'folies', elegant country houses built by wealthy merchants in the 18th century. Set among rolling vineyards just east of the city, it offers a glimpse into aristocratic life. The château's architecture blends classical French and Italian influences, with a grand façade, wrought-iron balconies, and a central courtyard. Inside, visitors can tour furnished rooms including a salon with 17th-century Flemish tapestries, a dining room, and a library. The formal French garden features clipped hedges, statues, and a fountain, while the park includes an English-style garden and an orangery. The estate still produces wine, and tastings are available in the cellars. The château is privately owned but open for guided visits, making it a peaceful escape from the city.
