The Lille Opera, or Opéra de Lille, is a magnificent Neoclassical theater located on the Place du Théâtre in central Lille. Designed by architect Louis Marie Cordonnier, it opened in 1923 and replaced an earlier opera house destroyed by fire. The building's grand façade features a colonnade and sculptures, while the interior boasts a lavish auditorium with red velvet seats, gilded details, and a stunning ceiling fresco. The opera house is home to the Opéra de Lille company and presents a diverse program of operas, ballets, and classical concerts throughout the year. Visitors can attend performances or take guided tours to admire the architecture and learn about its history. The venue is known for its excellent acoustics and intimate atmosphere, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Even if you don't attend a show, the building's exterior is a highlight of the city's architectural heritage.
