Cité Plantagenêt is the beautifully preserved medieval quarter of Le Mans, named after the Plantagenet dynasty that once ruled here. As you wander its narrow, winding streets paved with cobblestones, you'll be transported back in time. The district is encircled by impressive Gallo-Roman walls dating from the 3rd century, which are among the best-preserved in France. Inside, you'll find a maze of half-timbered houses, many restored to their original glory, with ground floors now housing artisan shops, cafés, and galleries. The atmosphere is particularly enchanting in the evening when the streets are softly lit. Don't miss the chance to stroll along the walls for panoramic views of the city and the Sarthe River. This neighborhood is a living museum, where history is palpable at every corner.
