Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Sainte-Croix, also known as Le Mans Cathedral, is a magnificent blend of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Its soaring twin spires are visible from across the city. The cathedral's construction spanned centuries, resulting in a fascinating mix of styles: the nave is Romanesque (11th-12th centuries), while the choir and transept are flamboyant Gothic (13th-14th centuries). Inside, you'll be awed by the vast stained-glass windows, some dating from the 13th century, which cast colorful light across the stone floors. The cathedral is also historically significant as the first site of the Congregation of Holy Cross, founded in 1837. Visitors often remark on the peaceful atmosphere and the intricate details of the carved stonework. Be sure to look up at the vaulted ceiling and the rose window.
