Saint Catherine's Church

Saint Catherine's Church is a remarkable timber-framed structure that dominates the heart of Honfleur. Built in the 15th century by local shipwrights using their skills in wood construction, the church features two naves with vaulted wooden ceilings that resemble an upturned ship's hull. The separate bell tower, located a short distance away, was built to protect the church from the vibrations of the bells. Inside, the church is simple yet impressive, with massive oak pillars and a warm, earthy atmosphere. The stained-glass windows depict maritime scenes and local saints, and the overall effect is both rustic and grand.
