The Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy dominates the heart of Dijon with its imposing classical façade and sprawling courtyards. Originally built in the 14th and 15th centuries as the seat of the powerful Valois Dukes, the palace later underwent major renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries, giving it the grand, symmetrical look you see today. Visitors can explore the vast Cour d'Honneur, admire the ducal kitchens, and see the surviving medieval towers. The palace is not a single monument but a living complex: part of it serves as Dijon's city hall, while the entire eastern wing houses the renowned Musée des Beaux-Arts. Walking through the palace gives you a sense of both medieval power and Enlightenment-era civic pride, all in one location.
