The Jardin Botanique de l'Arquebuse is a hidden green gem in the heart of Dijon, offering a peaceful escape from the city bustle. Spread over 3.5 hectares, the garden was established in 1833 on the grounds of a former shooting range (the name 'Arquebuse' refers to an old firearm). It houses over 4,000 plant species, including a notable arboretum with trees from around the world, a medicinal plant garden, and a systematic garden organized by plant families. The garden is laid out in a classic French style with geometric beds, but also includes a more naturalistic area with a pond and waterfall. The on-site Natural History Museum (Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle) occupies a 17th-century building and offers exhibits on local wildlife, geology, and paleontology. Visitors can stroll along shaded paths, relax on benches, and enjoy the seasonal blooms. The garden is particularly lovely in spring when the cherry trees and rhododendrons are in flower, and in autumn when the leaves turn vibrant colors.
