Little Venice is the most photogenic neighborhood in Colmar, where the Lauch River meanders past rows of pastel-painted half-timbered houses. The area earned its nickname from the charming waterways that resemble Venice, albeit on a smaller scale. Visitors can stroll along the cobblestone quays, cross small bridges, and admire the flower-bedecked balconies. A boat tour on a flat-bottomed barque offers a unique perspective, gliding under low arches and past medieval buildings. The district is also lined with winstubs (traditional Alsatian taverns) and artisan shops, making it a delightful spot for a leisurely afternoon.

Don't miss

  • Take a boat ride on the Lauch River for a canal-level view of the houses.
  • Photograph the iconic Quai de la Poissonnerie (Fishmongers' Quay) with its colorful façades.
  • Visit the covered market (Marché Couvert) for local produce and Alsatian specialties.
  • Explore the Tanners' District (Quartier des Tanneurs) with its high-roofed buildings designed for drying hides.
