The Bartholdi Museum occupies the 18th-century house where Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi was born in 1834. The museum traces his career from early works to his most famous creation, the Statue of Liberty. Visitors see original plaster models, sketches, and full-scale studies for Liberty, as well as his monumental sculptures like the Lion of Belfort. The house itself is a charming Alsatian townhouse with period furniture, giving a sense of the artist's upbringing. Exhibits include personal letters, photographs, and tools used in his studio. A highlight is the recreation of his Paris workshop, filled with casts and maquettes. The museum also explores Bartholdi's lesser-known works, such as fountains and monuments across France and the United States. The top floor offers views over Colmar's rooftops.
