Chartres en Lumières is a spectacular annual light festival that transforms the city's historic monuments into canvases for artistic projections. From April to October, after dusk, over 20 sites including the Chartres Cathedral, the Bishop's Garden, and medieval bridges are bathed in colorful, animated light displays. The shows are free and self-guided, allowing visitors to wander the old town and discover illuminated facades, often with synchronized music. Each year features new themes and designs, blending history with modern digital art. The cathedral's western facade, with its intricate sculptures, becomes a particularly stunning backdrop for projections that highlight its Gothic details. The festival creates a magical atmosphere, drawing both locals and tourists for evening strolls through the illuminated streets.
