Carcassonne Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of Saint Michael, is a striking Gothic church located in the Bastide Saint-Louis, the lower town. Built between the 13th and 14th centuries, it features a soaring nave, ribbed vaults, and a series of magnificent stained-glass windows that date from the 14th to the 16th centuries. The windows depict biblical scenes and saints, casting colorful light across the stone interior. The cathedral also houses a notable organ and several side chapels with ornate altarpieces. Unlike the fortified Cité, this area offers a quieter, more contemplative experience. The cathedral remains an active place of worship, so visitors should be respectful during services.
