The Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux is one of the most beautiful opera houses in Europe, a jewel of neoclassical design. Built between 1773 and 1780 by architect Victor Louis, its grand colonnaded facade and sweeping staircase set the standard for later theaters, including the Paris Garnier. Inside, the auditorium is a marvel of blue, gold, and white, with a stunning ceiling fresco and crystal chandeliers. The theater hosts opera, ballet, and classical concerts, offering visitors a chance to experience world-class performances in a historic setting. Even without a show, guided tours reveal the opulent foyers, the royal box, and the backstage areas. The Grand Théâtre is located on the Place de la Comédie, a lively square in the heart of Bordeaux.
