Palais Granvelle is a magnificent Renaissance palace built in the 16th century for Cardinal Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle. Its elegant courtyard, with arcades and sculpted medallions, is a highlight of Besançon's old town. Today, the palace houses the Musée du Temps (Museum of Time), which delves into the history of timekeeping, from sundials to atomic clocks, and celebrates Besançon's legacy as a watchmaking capital. Exhibits include intricate clocks, watches, and scientific instruments. Visitors can also explore the palace's grand rooms, including the Salle des Gardes with its painted ceiling. The museum offers interactive displays and a rooftop terrace with views over the city.
