Porte Saint-Nicholas is a historic city gate that once formed part of Beaune's defensive walls. Built in the 13th century, it served as a controlled entrance into the town, with a portcullis and drawbridge. Today, it stands as a well-preserved monument, its stone archway and towers still dominating the street. Visitors can walk through the gate, imagining the bustle of medieval merchants and travelers. The gate is particularly photogenic at sunset when the warm light illuminates the stone. It is located near the city center, making it an easy stop on a walking tour of Beaune's ramparts.

  • Observe the remains of the portcullis slot and drawbridge mechanism.
