The Bayeux War Cemetery and Memorial is a solemn and beautifully maintained site just outside the city center. It is the largest Commonwealth war cemetery from World War II in France, containing the graves of over 4,600 servicemen, mostly from the United Kingdom, but also from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other Allied nations. The cemetery is set amidst manicured lawns and rows of white headstones, each engraved with the soldier's name, rank, and emblem. At the entrance stands the Bayeux Memorial, a stone structure bearing the names of more than 1,800 Commonwealth servicemen who died in the Normandy campaign and have no known grave. The site serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made during the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy. Visitors often leave flowers or pay their respects in quiet reflection. The cemetery is located near the Bayeux Cathedral and is easily combined with other D-Day sites in the area.
