The Citadelle de Bastia, also known as Terra Nova, is the oldest quarter of the city, perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea. This fortified neighborhood was built by the Genoese in the 14th century and later expanded, featuring a maze of narrow cobblestone streets, stone houses, and impressive ramparts. Walking through its gates feels like stepping back in time. The citadel offers breathtaking views of the coastline, the Old Port, and the mountains. Within its walls, you'll find the Governor's Palace (now a museum), a cathedral, and quiet squares where locals gather. The area is less crowded than the port, making it ideal for a peaceful exploration of Bastia's medieval heritage.
