The Gorges du Fier are a natural wonder located just a few kilometers from Annecy, where the Fier River has carved a narrow, dramatic canyon through limestone rock over millennia. The gorge is so narrow in places that the walls are only a few meters apart, and the river thunders below. A unique suspended footbridge, anchored directly into the rock face, allows visitors to walk through the canyon at a height of about 25 meters above the water. The walkway is about 400 meters long and offers close-up views of the swirling rock formations, potholes, and fossils embedded in the stone. The sound of rushing water and the cool, damp air create an immersive experience. The site also includes a small museum about the geology and history of the gorges. It's a quick, dramatic escape into nature that feels far from the city.
