The Hanging Church, also known as the Church of the Virgin Mary, is one of the oldest Coptic churches in Cairo, dating back to the 3rd century. It is named for its nave suspended over a gatehouse of the Roman fortress of Babylon. Inside, visitors see intricate woodwork, marble pulpits, and beautiful icons. The church remains an active place of worship and a key stop on the Coptic heritage trail.
