Tinnis is a hauntingly beautiful ruin of a once-prosperous medieval city on an island in Lake Manzala. Known for its high-quality linen textiles, the city flourished between the 9th and 12th centuries before being abandoned due to political upheaval and changing trade routes. Today, visitors can explore the remains of brick walls, foundations, and a few standing structures, all slowly being reclaimed by the lake's reeds and waters. The site offers a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path experience with a palpable sense of history. Access is typically by boat from nearby villages, and the isolation adds to the atmosphere of discovery.

Don't miss

  • Explore the crumbling brick ruins of medieval houses and workshops.
  • See the remnants of a mosque and other public buildings, partially submerged.
  • Enjoy the serene, bird-filled landscape of Lake Manzala surrounding the island.
