Philae Island is the original location of the renowned Philae temple complex, which was relocated to nearby Agilkia Island to save it from flooding after the Aswan High Dam's construction. Today, the island remains mostly submerged in the reservoir, but during periods of low water, parts of the island and remnants of the temple foundations become visible. Visitors can take a boat to see the submerged ruins from above, observing the outlines of ancient structures beneath the clear water. This site offers a unique perspective on the scale of the relocation project and the original setting of the temples, making it a poignant stop for history enthusiasts.

  • View the submerged temple foundations and stone blocks visible through the water during low water levels.
  • Take a boat tour around the island to see the original island's shape and the surrounding reservoir.
  • Photograph the contrast between the submerged ruins and the relocated temples on nearby Agilkia Island.
