Santay Island is a protected nature reserve in the Guayas River, accessible by a short boat ride from the city. The island features elevated wooden boardwalks that wind through lush mangroves, allowing visitors to observe birds, iguanas, and monkeys in their natural habitat. Interpretive signs along the trails explain the local ecosystem. A small community lives on the island, and visitors can see traditional stilt houses. The island offers a peaceful contrast to the urban bustle, with opportunities for photography, birdwatching, and simply enjoying the river breeze.

Don't miss

  • Visit the small island community and see traditional stilt houses built over the water.
  • Take a guided boat tour around the island for a different perspective of the reserve.
