Altar de la Patria is a white marble mausoleum in Santo Domingo's Parque Independencia. It holds the remains of the Dominican Republic's founding fathers: Juan Pablo Duarte, Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, and Ramón Matías Mella. Inside, you'll see statues of them carved by Italian sculptor Nicholas Arrighini and an eternal flame kept lit in their memory.

A bit of history
The remains of the founding fathers were first kept at the Capilla de los Inmortales de la Catedral de Santo Domingo. From March 27, 1943, they were moved to La Puerta del Conde for 33 years before being placed in the Altar de la Patria, built in 1976. The mausoleum was designed by architect Cristian Martínez Villanueva at the center of Parque Independencia.
