Parque Nacional Submarino La Caleta is a marine protected area that safeguards one of the Dominican Republic's most accessible coral reef systems. The park features a shallow fringing reef teeming with tropical fish, sea fans, and brain corals, plus the wreck of a 19th-century ship that has become an artificial reef. Snorkelers can easily explore the clear waters from the beach, while divers can descend to the wreck and deeper drop-offs. The park's calm conditions and rich biodiversity make it a favorite for both beginners and experienced underwater enthusiasts.
Don't miss
- Snorkel over shallow coral gardens with parrotfish, angelfish, and sea urchins
- Dive the Hickory shipwreck, a 19th-century vessel now encrusted with coral
- Spot sea turtles and rays gliding along the reef edge
