Østerlars Church is the largest and oldest of Bornholm's four round churches, built around 1160. Its distinctive circular design, with a central column supporting a conical roof, served both religious and defensive purposes. The church's thick walls and narrow windows hint at its role as a refuge during medieval conflicts. Inside, visitors can see well-preserved frescoes from the 14th century, depicting biblical scenes. The church is still an active parish church, and its peaceful cemetery offers views of the surrounding countryside.
