The Lennon Wall is a historic graffiti wall in Prague's Malá Strana district, located at Velkopřevorské náměstí. After John Lennon's murder in 1980, an unknown artist painted his portrait there, and it became a place for free expression under communist rule. Today it's an open-air gallery with a reflective metal centerpiece featuring Lennon's outline.

A bit of history
In the 1960s, the wall already held love poems and anti-government messages. After Lennon's 1980 assassination, an unknown artist painted his image and lyrics. The secret police repeatedly painted over it, but it was always re-graffitied. In 1988, young Czechs used the wall to express grievances, leading to clashes with police on Charles Bridge. After the Velvet Revolution, the original portrait was lost under layers of new paint. In 2019, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta renovated the wall, declaring it a memorial site and banning spray painting. A museum about the wall's history, the Lennon Wall Story, opened in July 2021.
