The Sedlec Ossuary, a Roman Catholic chapel in Kutná Hora, is one of the world's most unusual religious sites. Its interior is decorated with the skeletal remains of 40,000 to 70,000 people, arranged into intricate designs including a massive chandelier, crosses, and the Schwarzenberg coat of arms. Visitors walk through this bone-filled space, contemplating mortality and the artistry of the anonymous creator who assembled these macabre decorations in the late 19th century.

Don't miss

  • See the enormous bone chandelier containing every bone in the human body
  • Find the Schwarzenberg coat of arms made entirely of human bones
  • Observe the signature of František Rint, the woodcarver who arranged the bones, spelled out in skeletal remains
