The National Capitol of Cuba, or El Capitolio, dominates Havana's skyline with its massive dome and neoclassical design, inspired by the U.S. Capitol but distinct in its Cuban identity. Completed in 1929, it originally housed the country's congress and now functions as a museum and convention center. Visitors can admire the grand interior, including the 24-karat gold-tipped dome and the famous 48-carat diamond embedded in the floor marking Kilometer Zero for Cuba's highways. The building's scale and ornate details, from marble staircases to bronze sculptures, reflect the ambition of pre-revolutionary Cuba.
Don't miss
- See the 48-carat diamond in the floor marking Cuba's Kilometer Zero.
- Climb to the top of the dome for panoramic views of Havana.
- Admire the bronze and marble statues in the Hall of Lost Steps.
