The National Capitol of Cuba, or El Capitolio, dominates Havana's skyline with its massive dome and neoclassical design, inspired by the U.S. Capitol but distinct in its Cuban identity. Completed in 1929, it originally housed the country's congress and now functions as a museum and convention center. Visitors can admire the grand interior, including the 24-karat gold-tipped dome and the famous 48-carat diamond embedded in the floor marking Kilometer Zero for Cuba's highways. The building's scale and ornate details, from marble staircases to bronze sculptures, reflect the ambition of pre-revolutionary Cuba.
