Castillo de los Tres Reyes Del Morro, commonly called El Morro, is a iconic 16th-century fortress built by the Spanish to defend Havana from pirates and invaders. Perched at the entrance to Havana Harbor, it features thick stone walls, a lighthouse, and a network of ramps and bastions. Visitors can explore the battlements, climb the lighthouse for sweeping views of the sea and city, and visit the small museum detailing the fortress's history. The site is especially atmospheric at sunset when the fortress is silhouetted against the sky, and the nightly cannon ceremony reenacts the colonial-era closing of the harbor.

Don't miss

  • Watch the nightly cannon ceremony at 9 PM, a tradition dating back to colonial times.
  • Climb the lighthouse for panoramic views of Havana Harbor and the city skyline.
  • Explore the ramparts and dungeons, imagining life as a Spanish soldier.
